Legend has it that the Divine Fox once spent all Her divine power and became bound to the mortal world, all to keep Mengzhou's endless night alight. In commemoration, people inscribe the year's blessings upon Moon Lanterns and set them adrift as invitations, bidding the mirth-loving Divine Fox to share in mortal joys. The Bloom of Hearkening is said to have taken shape from the divine power She left behind, and thus resonates with the emotions of all living things: it wilts in sorrow, blushes in joy, and bursts open in wrath. Seeing it as an incarnation of the Divine Fox Herself, people often confide their hearts to it.
